Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws encountered their second loss during their match against University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tiger Sands, 14-21, 20-22, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 men's beach volleyball tournament last November 23 at the Mall of Asia Beach Volleyball Sandcourt in Pasay City.
The Tamaraws managed to play with a close gap with the help of UST’s errors from the service line, but failed to maximize these to emerge victorious during the first set.
FEU’s Nadera-Bugaoan tandem strived to proceed on a wire-to-wire second set by firing solid blocks and attacks despite the grapple on the first set.
During the post-game interview with FEU Advocate, FEU Team Captain Vincent Nadera expressed that they were impressed with the composure they showed on court amid the intense match-up with the Tiger Sands.
"Kaming dalawa kanina, nag-uusap kami. Tumatak talaga samin 'yung composed [kami] sa isa't isa kasi 'yung ganung dikdikan na laban, ‘yung error, napakaimportante talaga (We were talking earlier. What we really focused on was that [we] were composed with each other because that kind of match, the error, is really important)," he said.
Unfortunately, the Morayta sand spikers failed to emerge victorious to extend the match into a deciding third set.
Nadera added that they have to go back to their plays in training as one part of their plans and strategies in order to bounce back for their next games.
"Back to basic pa rin kami. Magsisimula pa rin kami sa ensayo namin, kasi hindi rin basta-basta 'yung ibang schools, nagti-training sila. So, balik kami kung anong meron kami, tapos magfo-focus kami sa system ng coaches (We are still back to basics. We will still start our rehearsals because the other schools are not taking it lightly either, they are continuously training. So, we will go back to what we have, then we will focus on the coaches system),” he mentioned.
The green-and-gold squad is now at a 2-2 win and loss record and will attempt to secure their third and fourth win against the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons and De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Spikers on November 26 at the same venue.
