Far Eastern University (FEU) placed 19th in the Ethical Value category and 91st overall in the World Universities with Real Impact (WURI) Global Top 100 Innovative Universities list, making it the only Philippine school included in the ranking.
The first WURI ranking organized by the Hanseatic League of Universities (HLU), the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Franklin University of Switzerland, and the Institute for Policy and Strategy on National Competitiveness (IPSNC) aims to discover and evaluate academic institutions' innovative and creative learning approaches that foster the workforce that meets the demand from the "new" industry and society.
In a press release last June 11, WURI recognized the University’s efforts to innovate learning programs that create real contributions and impact to society.
Vice President for Academic Development Dr. Myrna P. Quinto shared to FEU Advocate that the institution excelled in the category that focuses on "social responsibility, ethics, and integrity" for its FEU Learning Journey (FLJ) framework.
"The FEU Learning Journey as a digital mentoring program is an innovative practice because of its design that allows the interaction between a mentor and mentee using Canvas," Dr. Quinto explained.
Aside from this, the said framework has been helping FEU to evaluate and improve their students' academic experience.
"The modules are multi-faceted and based on a student lifecycle model. The responses from students can also provide more insights into how FEU will formulate policies and programs to improve learning in the university," she added.
Lauded in the Ethical Value category, FEU aims to rank in the three other categories (Industrial Application, Entrepreneurial Spirit, and Student Mobility and Openness) through coming up with more innovative programs and building more partnerships with other institutions.
Moreover, Dr. Quinto mentioned that the priority of the University is not the award rather the quality of the students' learning journey.
"The award is not the goal but we zero in on what can work best to help students," she said.
FEU now joins Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University among others in the Global Top 100.
