Far Eastern University (FEU) campuses in Manila, Makati, Alabang, Diliman, Institute of Technology (Tech), Cavite, Roosevelt, including FEU High School have eased their academic workload for one week due to the devastation brought by recent typhoons. 

In a memorandum that applies for Manila, Makati, and Cavite campuses, Academic Affairs Office (AAO) said the University will suspend synchronous classes from November 16 to 21.

The suspension is made to “support the students and faculty who are recovering from the aftermath of typhoons Rolly and Ulysses.” 

In addition, campuses in Alabang, Diliman, and Tech have released a statement assuring the students that the school administration along with the student coordinating councils and organizations are working hand-in-hand to reach out to those students affected by the typhoon.

FEU High School and Roosevelt have also issued a memo that implies cancellation of classes in light with the previous events between November 16 to 20.

“We urge our community to stay in touch with their class mayors and homeroom advisers about their current situation,” said FEU High School Executive Director Stephanie Ann B. Mutuc in the memo.

Resumption of classes for FEU Manila, Makati, Cavite will be on November 23, while FEU High School and Roosevelt is set to resume classes on Saturday, November 21. 

In a Facebook post of FEU Central Student Organization (FEUCSO), it stated that all academic workload for students shall be eased during the week, moving all deadlines to succeeding weeks.

Prior to the ‘recovery period,’ the council released a calamity survey report that 1,101 students have no electricity, homes of 339 students were damaged, and learning devices of 197 students were affected.

The mayhem caused by typhoon Ulysses in several parts of Luzon brought further complications in a newly established distance learning programs of schools. Last November 12, it submerged Marikina City, provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, and Rizal in floods.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has approved to recommend the declaration of state of calamity to the entire island of Luzon.

As of 8:00 a.m. today, November 16, NDRRMC said on its situation report that 523,871 families or 2,074,301 persons were affected by the onslaught of typhoon Ulysses.
