Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws failed to secure another win despite the strong start against the University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons, 56-73, in the first-round eliminations of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 women's basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City earlier today, October 8.
The Morayta cagebelles established good momentum against the Katipunan-based squad after super rookie Kyla Go generated nine points at the end of the first half, 35-26.
It was a lackluster second half for the green-and-gold squad after the Lady Maroons started to deliver on the defensive end that led to a one-point trail at the end of the third canto, 42-43.
FEU continued to struggle upon entering the last quarter which made them suffer a 17-point defeat against UP, 56-73.
“Siguro nakampante lang na parang nung una lamang na kami, nung second half nakampante na kami. At saka nung time na nawala yung captain namin, 'di ba na-injury siya, parang dun na lahat bumagsak (I think we got too complacent because we were leading at the start, then in the second half we were already contented. And when our team captain got injured, that’s when everything went downhill),” Go stated.
Go made another stellar performance as she produced a total of 14 points, while rookie Shane Cunanan also stepped up with 10 points.
FEU Team Captain Camille Taguiam was unable to finish the game after encountering an injury at the start of the second half, pitching in only six points to the game.
The Lady Tamaraws now sport a 1-2 win-loss record and will try to redeem a win against the Adamson University Lady Falcons at the University of Santo Tomas Quadricentennial Pavilion on Wednesday, October 12.
