Little bright secret that I kept;
There were some nights and days
And some trying times when I wept
Because I didn’t get to see your face.
Thick dark hair and big brown eyes;
You’d look like me, I thought in silent cries.
I wouldn’t know, I would never know
What you’d look like when you grow.
But it wasn’t my fault, I swear.
It was this wicked world
And vicious whispers I couldn’t bear,
Not to mention the judgments here and there.
Life has been tough on me,
And the life you deserved to see
Was something far better off from mine
Because here, you wouldn’t be so fine.
So I finally put off your bright little flare,
But it doesn’t mean that I didn’t care.
So I’m sorry, my frail little flame.
Just know that everything after was not the same.
