Following the successful opening of the ‘I Can See Your Vote: See-Know Ang Karapat-dapat’ program last March 17, the 4-installment webinar series is officially running every week spearheaded by Special Projects faculty and students under the Department of Communication's Convergent media track program.
The first webinar series entitled ‘Nanay, Tatay, gusto ng Red. Ate, Kuya, gusto ng Pink: The Voters and their Immediate Family Members’ with the topic, ‘Discussing Varying and Conflicting Political Views within Family Members’ took place on a hybrid setup last March 24 under the production of Ms. Anansa Dijan's 4th year BA Communication students.
This upcoming April 7, the third installment of the webinar series will take place under the title ‘There Can Be Miracles When You Believe: The Voters and their Social Media Consumption’ which will tackle how the social media environment plays a huge role in how we view and understand politics, as well as the lack of it.
The session will tackle topics such as ‘Identification of Satirical Online Pages from Legitimate News Sites and Pages: How do we differentiate these two?’ which will be discussed by Mr. Gabriel Billones Jr., the Lead Organizer of the Break The Fake Movement - ‘Falsification of Political Contents on Facebook: How do we know if these are altered quotes, graphics, and videos?’ to be discussed by Atty. Kristy Jane Balino, a Former Attorney III from the Office of the Chairman of the Commission on Elections, and ‘Communication to Social Media Site Administrators: How do we report satirical pages and falsified contents?’ which will be discussed by Albert Pagunsan, the program director of Fact Check Philippines.
The webinar series will conclude with ‘Let’s Vote In: The Voters and their Social Responsibility’ which will tackle topics such as ‘Empowering the Youth: The Power of Volunteerism in Political Campaigning’, ‘Standing Up for What is Right: Initiatives of Student Leaders in Promoting to Vote for the Right Leader’, and ‘Mga Maliliit na Pagpupulong Tungo sa Matalinong Pagboto’ - which summarizes the entirety of the event with highlights. It will also feature a panel discussion and will be held on April 11, 2022.
The 4-part event is under the banner of IAS' Voter's Online Technology Education Series (VOTES), in partnership with the Department of Communication (DepComm).
Embodying the department’s mantra “May Alam, May Pakialam,” the goal of the series is to engage as many voters to be responsible and empower them to influence those within their reach in the upcoming 2022 National Elections.
