In line with the upcoming presidential election this 2016, Far Eastern University (FEU) together with Communication Society (CommSoc) and TV 5 Network conducts ‘Bilang Pilipino 2016: Maging Kabilang sa Pagbabago' last February 4 at the Mini Auditorium.
The event started with an opening remarks by Department of Communication (DepComm) Head Karen Panela and followed by viewing of TV 5 program ‘History with Lourd.’ Lia Cruz of TV 5 News hosted the event. Guest speakers include T3: Reload host Erwin Tulfo, News 5 Brand Manager Ray Caguin, and FEU Institute of Law (IL) Dean Atty. Melencio Sta. Maria.
Tulfo discussed the problems and challenges regarding the 2016 Presidential candidates. In a question and answer portion, Tulfo said that the event was part of their advocacy.
“Well, our advocacy is to educate the youth for the right candidate that will serve,” he said. He also shared his advice to the youth voters for the coming election. “Tignan natin yung mga kahinaan ng kandidatong ito, kung kaya ba niyang pamahalaan ang bayan. Huwag lang basta yung mga sinasabe nila at nakikita niyo sa TV (We should look in the weaknesses of the candidates, if he can govern the country. Not just on what they are saying and what you see in TV),” he added.
Meanwhile, FEU Institute of Arts and Sciences (IAS) Sessionista performed ‘Bilang Pilipino 2016’ anthem. News 5 Brand Manager Ray Caguin introduced the website of ‘Bilang Pilipino 2016’ and gave a background on its perks and how will it help the youth in choosing their candidate.
On the other hand, IL Dean and TV 5 ‘Relasyon’ Anchor Atty. Sta. Maria discussed the importance of youth’s vote. Further, he also explained different election issues on the presidential candidates in the question and answer portion.
The event ended with a dance performance from FEU IAS Dance Company. Students who attended and participated in the event were given items from TV 5 such as lanyards, shirts and flash drives.
