Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws absorbed their sixth loss of the season as they were trounced by the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs, 44-67, to conclude the first round of eliminations of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 women’s basketball tourney at the Ynares Sports Complex in Antipolo City yesterday, October 23.
The Lady Tamaraws were dominated early in the match as their field goal rate was only limited to 23.5% with the tight defense of the Lady Bulldogs in the first half, 24-31.
FEU’s offense and defense continued to falter during the second half which led to a huge 23-point defeat against the defending champions, 44-67.
Green-and-gold cagebelles Princess Jumuad listed 14 points, while Team Captain Camille Taguiam and Danica Pacia chipped in nine points apiece.
In an online interview with FEU Advocate, Jumuad shared that she did not expect to be one of the top scorers of the team.
“‘Di ko po inakala na maging bahagi [ng] top scorers sa team kasi halos mga ginagawa ko po sa loob ng court pasa lang sa mga libre [na] shooters (I did not think that I would be part of the top scorers in the team because most of what I do inside the court is just free shooters),” Jumuad stated.
Top scorer Jumuad also mentioned that they will prepare better defense as they enter the second round of eliminations.
“Sa second round naman po siguro paghahandaan namin yung defense kasi dun kami nakakakuha ng points (In the second round, maybe when we prepare the defense because that's where we get points),” Jumuad added.
The Morayta-based lady dribblers sit at a lone seventh place standing with a 1-6 win-loss card just a win behind sixth-seeded Adamson University Lady Falcons.
