Far Eastern University (FEU) hosted English Speaking Union’s 2016 search for the Philippine representative to the International Public Speaking Competition (IPSC) in London.
Held last February 6 at the FEU Conference Center, 26 schools with more than 40 individuals participated in the event. The competition opened with the elimination rounds.
Participants then proceeded to the semifinals. Six speakers advanced to the pre-finals. One Carlo Diaz, Haron Dima, Joseph Lorenzo Espino, Clariele Gatdula, and John Nicolai Parlan represented the FEU in the competition. Gatdula and Parlan reached the pre-finals.
On the other hand, Diaz grabbed a spot to the grand finals. Ana Victoria Andres of De La Salle University and Marco Del Valle of University of the Philippines were also among the grand finalists.
The last leg of the competition will be held on February 13, at FEU Makati. Student Development (SDev) spearheaded the said public speaking competition.
SDev Director Joeven Castro stated that such event provides a platform for discourse on societal issues. “The youth has to be engaged in these issues so they can act on them in their own little ways.”
